Public Health Special Lecture and Practice I, II

Latest update on 4 June 2023

1. Overview

To learn public health in English. MDGs, post-MDGs (SDGs) and global health including IHR (International Health Regulations) are also explained, but the contents shoule be adjusted depending on the previous knowledge of the participants and the ongoing situation of global health issues.

Basically, the lecture is given at the first semester, and the presentation and discussion for the common theme will be done at the second semester, because both of the basic knowledge and the skills of presentation and discussion are necessary as global public health professionals.

This is basically targetted to the graduate students under Prof. Nakazawa's supervision. For Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies (GSICS) students, [1I164] for the first semester and [3I164] for the second semester. For the Graduate School of Health Sciences (GSHS) students, [1K438] (master course) and [1K729] (doctoral course) for the first semester and the combinations of [3K436]+[3K433] (master course) and [3K725]+[3K724] (doctoral course) for the second semester. The students should register all of those, not partly.

2-2. Plan of practice at the second semester 2023

The topics listed below are the common theme: reviewing the theme itself or selecting any specific subject in the theme and doing presentation will be done by all participants, followed by discussion.

Presentation is normally introducing a published paper, either systematic review and meta-analysis or original research article. If you want, more than 1 paper will be introduced at once. How to make a handout or presentation material is explained at the time of Orientation. Using PubMed or Google Scholar to find a good paper is very important. Even if you have an excellent presentation skill, it's almost impossible to do a good presentation for a poor paper.

This class will be done on Thursday, 9:00-12:10 at GSICS Bldg. 5, Presentation Room at 4th floor. If you have any difficulty to join the face-to-face class, you can join via Zoom (please see BEEF page [3I164] for access information).
